Credit cards 'convenient' for Christmas shopping

Credit cards give consumers an easy way to do their Christmas shopping, according to Sainsbury's Bank.

According to the company's head of cards, Donald MacLeod, plastic can save people from carrying around lots of cash, while certain cards which offer zero per cent on purchases give a shopper a lot of flexibility.

He added that by taking advantage of the best deals on credit cards, consumers can still manage their finances carefully over the festive period.

However, Mr MacLeod also warned that leaving it too late to buy gifts at Christmas time may not be the best idea.

"A lot can be spent at Christmas time and if you are leaving it to the last minute, there is always the risk of overspending because you've been a little disorganised," he explained.

Robin Amlot, the senior editor of online advice service Money Extra, recently stated that consumers must ensure they shop around when choosing a credit card in order to avoid throwing their money away.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18401782-ADNFCR
